Following the successful upgrade of the building management system (BMS) at a car dealership last year – in only three months the project delivered 50% ROI and 30% energy savings – RDM’s HVAC control and monitoring solutions were chosen for the BMS upgrade of more car dealerships.
Based on the success of the initial project, the same scope was specified for the other sites. RDM solutions were nominated to create one overarching control strategy for all individual HVAC systems on a site. This strategy, designed and implemented by Cantec Energy, ensures that:
- Different HVAC systems work with rather than against each other
- The HVAC infrastructure responds correctly to environmental condition
- The energy use and carbon footprint of the site is reduced
RDM’s open protocol control and monitoring solutions and PLC software were crucial to the project’s success. Control and monitoring system front-end DMTouch is based on open protocols and thereby can communicate with third-party equipment. This allows existing HVAC infrastructure that features equipment from multiple manufacturers to be controlled and monitored by one central front-end system and with one overarching control strategy. Existing third-party infrastructure remained in place, leading to low installation costs and a reduced carbon footprint as functioning equipment was kept out of landfills.
RDM’s PLC software TDB was used to create the control strategy that ensures the car dealerships’ HVAC systems work with each other and respond correctly to environmental conditions. As a result, the sites reduced their energy use and created a comfortable environment for staff and customers.
The solution also created a user-friendly control process for staff. Although the mechanical aspects differ on each site, the control process is the same across the board, creating a streamlined approach that is easy for staff to use.
