Resource Data Management (RDM) are proud to celebrate their 25th anniversary this year. Founded in 2000 on the principle of efficiency, RDM have stayed true to their roots, becoming a trusted partner for businesses around the world seeking to reduce energy consumption, streamline operations, and achieve sustainability goals through intelligent control and monitoring solutions.
RDM’s growth is rooted in delivering open protocol control systems, lifetime software licences, and dedicated technical support, all while fostering long-standing relationships across retail, cold chain, and hospitality sectors.
At the start of 2025, RDM’s founder Andrew Chandler retired, handing over the role of CEO to Ged Evans, who had been with RDM for two years as Operations Director. Continuing the successful legacy built on innovation and sustainability, Mr. Evans also introduced innovations of his own, focusing on RDM’s growth journey by joining Scale up Scotland and emphasising internal training.
“The continued development of our team has been the biggest highlight for me so far,” Mr Evans stated. “The first cohort finished our leadership academy and we started training with our sales teams in the UK and the US to create a global standard.”
2025 also saw investments in new job functions to support the business in its next phase of growth. These new roles will be instrumental in ensuring a robust and stable supply chain, creating a quality management system underpinned by ISO certifications, and leading the innovation of new products that will keep RDM a leader in the industry.
One essential new function created since the start of the year is Head of Technology. David Drysdale-Wilson took on this role to drive RDM’s innovation.
“My focus is on building strong foundations for continuous growth, embedding best practices, and supporting team development,” Mr. Drysdale-Wilson stated. “I also plan to advance mobile and backend capabilities, continue to embed security at every stage of development.
“I’m particularly excited by the opportunities of AI and machine learning. AI/ML is enabling smarter, more predictive systems, optimizing energy usage, improving equipment reliability, and proactively identifying issues before they escalate. These intelligent systems enhance security through anomaly detection and monitoring, while also allowing teams to deliver solutions more efficiently. Combined with advances in mobile, cloud, and scalable platforms, these trends are helping engineering teams build smarter, safer, and more responsive solutions that have a real impact for customers.”
In addition to focusing on new product innovations, RDM’s leadership team now also intensified the company’s focus on high-growth verticals. Building on decades of client success in its core markets, RDM is now fuelling its next-phase expansion by broadening its presence in other industries such as government infrastructure, pharmaceutical facilities, schools and universities.
Another sector where RDM has seen significant achievements is hospitality, in particular quick service restaurants (QSRs).
For QSRs, RDM’s platform ensures data-led energy management, reduces manpower requirements for maintenance checks, and automates critical alerts, ideal for high-volume, speed-focused QSR operations. RDM secured major rollouts over the past few years, and are looking to scale the solutions globally.
While working with customers to improve their efficiency, sustainability remains central to RDM’s operations and the business has intensified its efforts towards achieving net zero.
“We made considerable reductions of our scope 1 and 2 emissions over the past two years,’ Mr Evans commented. “We are about to embark on our biggest challenge to date and add scope 3. We have a dedicated resource at HQ but to succeed and make an impact in Scope 3 it will require input and action across the business. This is a challenge we are ready to embrace as we protect our planet.”
Innovative product developments, exciting sustainability objectives, and a focus on new industries, will define RDM’s next step of its journey.
