News at RDM: Andrew Chandler wins major industry award

Andrew Chandler wins major industry award for pioneering contribution to control and monitoring

Andrew Chandler, managing director of Glasgow-based Resource Data Management, has won a major industry award for his pioneering work in control and monitoring, and energy efficiency.

He was presented with the award for Pioneer of the Year – Individual at a glittering ceremony at the Hilton on London’s Park Lane, at the finals of the Cooling Industry Awards 2009.

The judges said that Andrew had "transformed the approach of refrigeration operators to energy performance" as a result of his development of user-friendly but highly powerful control and monitoring technology based on the internet, known as ActiveFM.

“The technology enabled a degree of control that was previously unheard of, putting refrigeration managers in the forefront of energy management as electricity prices soared, enabling huge cost savings to be achieved." the judges said.

The award also recognises the enormous future potential of RDMs approach, and its capacity for expansion beyond refrigeration into the wider field of H.V.A.C.R / building services and the control of whole buildings.

They praised Andrew Chandler for “practicing what he preaches”, highlighting his implementation of a comprehensive programme of sustainable measures at the company, including the installation of two large wind turbines at the Glasgow HQ to meet 60 per cent of day time electricity needs.

They concluded: "He has a tremendous body of work, not least in designing a control system that has become the industry standard."

Andrew comments on award win

"Speaking after the awards, Andrew said: “It goes without saying that I am delighted to have won the award. It is tremendous to be recognised for the hard work and achievements of many years."

“It reflects the combined teamwork of RDM’s people over a considerable period of time. Without their passion, energy and creativity, we would not have been so successful in delivering solutions that make such a massive difference to our customer’s businesses."

He added: "We will not be resting on our laurels, however! We are working on a new generation of products that will further extend the abilities and areas of application of our equipment in future. With energy prices continuing to rise, we have the solutions to give clients back control – and deliver substantial savings in money, energy and carbon in the process."
